  1. I was listening to XM this afternoon and a mix of the above came on that I don't recall ever hearing. It seemed to have some synths or something that made it sound like a radio remix of some sort. Was there a single mix of this?

    Available on CD?

  2. This is probably from the Greatest Hits cd that came out in 1994. I know it had some radio mixes on it which I was also unaware of until recently when I heard it at a friends place.
  3. Completely different recording than the album, with different personnel.

  4. From Wikipedia:

There are several different versions of the song, all recorded officially by Whitesnake. They are:

The original version from the 1982 Saints & Sinners album with Bernie Marsden and Micky Moody on guitar (5:03)[4]
The re-recorded version which appears on the Whitesnake (aka "1987") album with John Sykes on guitar (solo by Adrian Vandenberg) (4:36)
A 1987 "radio-mix" version, which was released as a U.S. single with Denny Carmassi on drums and Dan Huff on guitar, who also provided the new arrangement. This version also appeared on Whitesnake's Greatest Hits album in 1994 (3:54)
A 1997 acoustic version recorded for the Starkers in Tokyo album with Adrian Vandenberg on guitar.

    Who knew!

  5. Actually, I. However, I have never heard the 1982 version, nor have I ever heard it on the radio.

  7. i never really cared for the radio version. it's way different than the one on the self titled record. the song, as is, would've been huge anyway, don't understand why they felt they needed to do a remix version.

  8. That was just standard practice in the late 80's. Tom Lord-Alge made a mint making "radio-friendly" mixes during that time. Remember, this was during the time Def Leppard's Hysteria record was ALL OVER the radio, so this was the sound of a hit hard rock record.

I dunno, I totally get why they did this version. It's faster, has keyboards and doesn't have that slow intro, which definitely would've been cut for radio play. Same reason why the solo got chopped to shreds in "Sweet Child O'Mine".

  9. This is the correct answer , there were single mixes/Edits , funny thing is Adrian vandenburg & Vivian cambell play leads on some of them (like give me all your love tonight) .
the Totally different recording is the 70's version Off "saints & sinners" ??

but the synth one is a radio mix ....

  10. I never knew there were two 1987 versions of "Here I Go Again". Is the radio re-recorded version on the Gold comp, or is that the 1987 album version?
  11. This was the version that I heard first. When I the album version (1987), it sounded wrong to me the first few times.
  12. The Radio version was on the Cassingle , Cd single & alos the older single Greatest hits , not sure about the double gold cd set ....
just checked the sample on amazon , it's not very long but 99% sure it's the Original mix off the self titled lp .
  13. Thanks. Just listened to the radio version via the link posted earlier, and I'm not sure I ever heard it. I probably changed the station when this song came on back then. I think I've only heard the album version. The video that aired on MTV was the full album version, wasn't it? Or maybe a shorter version of that recording. I don't think it was this radio version.

The album version is much better.

  14. It wasn't, by any chance, this version that you heard??

...which I realize is easily confused with this other Whitesnake remake.

  15. If you listened to top 40 radio, chances are you heard the single version with the additional keyboards during the choruses. If you were an FM listener, you would have heard the album version.
  16. one of my fave tunes. Yes, there are many different versions out there....
  17. What if you were a Top 40 FM listener?
  18. Radio mixes confuse folk.
The US remix can also be found on the then contemporary UK Now 10 compilation album available in vinyl, tape and cd.
  19. The only version I care about is the 1982 original.
  20. Which version would have been used on the video?

Sounds like the album version to me.
  22. +1

I love the "1987" album. When I first heard "Still of The Night", I called my brother in the USA (I was in the UK, and it was an EXPENSIVE call) and told him it was going to be HUGE. Of course, he didn't believe me....

  23. I hate the radio mix, which is on Greatest Hits. It turns the song into a wretched 80s synth track.

I much prefer the 1987 album track.

The 1982 Saints And Sinners version is good, but it's a bit slow and I don't like the use of the word "hobo" rather than "drifter". The 1982 version of "Crying In The Rain", however, is as soulful as Coverdale gets.

The video uses the 1987 album version.
  24. Both 1987 versions can be found on this collection.
